The fee for the initial visit for counseling and coaching is $135. The initial visit includes an assessment for depression and anxiety (counseling clients) or the wheel of life and coaching paperwork (coaching clients). The initial visit is 60 minutes. Each additional appointment will be 50 minutes unless otherwise requested. The fee for self pay counseling and coaching clients is $125 for a 50 minute session. I do not accept insurance due to my higher standards of confidentiality and high quality of care for each of my clients.
Intensive Therapy is offered for counseling clients that are seeking 90 minute or 2+ hours of therapy instead of the traditional 50 minute session. Intensive therapy is most often used for the treatment of anxiety, depression, or trauma. Intensive sessions use a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy techniques along with EMDR to process and heal from the physical, mental, and emotional trauma from sexual, emotional, physical abuse or traumas. Intensive therapy is called Intensives because of the longer session length. It can be helpful for victims of abuse and those diagnosed with PTSD or struggling with trauma or anxiety due to the intense emotional and mental turmoil that has been experienced. Sometimes, a 50 minute session isn’t long enough to share your story, address needs, and begin processing and healing. Intensive therapy offers a way for the client to have a longer amount of time with the therapist in one sitting. Intensives are counseling sessions that can range from 2 hours to 4 hours depending upon each client and their needs. A 2 hour intensive therapy session costs $240, 3 hours is $360, and 4 hours is $480.
Higher Standards of Confidentiality
When you use insurance benefits for counseling, a “label” or diagnosis is required, such as Major Depression, Anxiety Disorder, etc. These labels often cause you to be rated “high risk” for life or health insurance in the future. Unfortunately, this label follows you in your medical records for the rest of your life.
Insurance companies are dictating care. They often told me what treatment they required, even though they have never met the patient or been present for a session. An insurance company has the right to see your counseling case notes at any time. These are passed around the insurance company and as many as seven people could be reading and processing these notes; intimate details of your life. “Used Counseling Benefits” becomes part of your permanent medical record. Case notes, if requested by insurance, become part of your permanent medical records.
In order to qualify for insurance use for counseling, most companies require that you be diagnosed with SMI (Severe Mental Illness). That code on your record may or may not reflect your actual condition. In other words, you have to be diagnosed “sick enough” to use benefits.
Counseling should be PRIVATE and CONFIDENTIAL.
For what has been mentioned above and many other reasons, Kim Kares Counseling & Coaching has higher standards of confidentiality and quality of care for each client and therefore is not on any insurance panels.
